CrapHat SEO – Its your own fault Google
February 26th, 2009Having just read Matts tweet below I felt the need to gripe a bit
First off…
Yes profile spam is bad in a school forum – nobody would disagree
But you have to put the reasons for the problem into perspective.
Yes there are a lot of wanker spammers out there, some people do things that perhaps they dont think through.
The reason they are doing them however is Google decided that .edu domains could be perceived as having higher trust.
So Google, you attracted the spammers to the school and they posted porn as it pays…
Stop bleating that you are the good guys, its as much your own fault.

Porn on school sites sucks, who would disagree? So do system cracks, site defacements, virus infusion, and so on.
But repeatedly equating (and utterly in earnest, too) “black hat SEOs” with criminal crackers/hackers, as Matt Cutts keeps on doing, is political propaganda pure and unadulterated – in other words: invidious demagogy.
(Put more bluntly: it’s actually a hallmark of the fascistoid mind. And in case someon’s wondering, this is anything but a frivolous claim – it’s entirely backed up by political science, fascism research, etc. etc.)
