The Digg effect….

September 13th, 2006

Well since my story was submitted to Digg (Thanks Mitemous) it has gained 414 diggs and briefly yesterday I made the front page! As experiments go (I havent done much with Digg before) this was quite a shock.. yesterday this site had just over 10,000 uniques! For some that may still be small but for me thats spectacular day. My logs also show 1200 add to favourites… no pressure now then….

Thanks to my good friend Pilky (Watch the insults campercan boy ;) ) who grabbed a screenshot for me and for his blog..

Here is the screenshot and also a graph of the traffic for the last few days….

And on top of all that Mr Cutts has commented over on Threadwatch… heres the two comments

Matt Cutts
I’d be surprised if they were related in any way. I thought the cartoon was funny, and I doubt anyone else would even get/understand/notice the cartoon. I certainly didn’t forward the cartoon to anyone else at Google; just got a chuckle out of it myself.

Matt – Thanks for the clarification – I dont really think it was you, its more likely that the invalid clicks came from a 3rd party who took it the wrong way.
I have played it a bit heavy on the Matt gets my account banned but i have a serious reason, I along with an increasing number of publishers are starting to realise quite how inpersonal the banning process is from Google. Whilst i understand that you really didnt ban my account i hope that as the face of Google you can influence the policy towards clickfraud bans for all the remaining publishers.. publishers who make Google the majority of their income.

About SEOidiot

Hi my name is Paul Madden and I am a UK SEO based in Lancashire, for years I have been cursed by the nickname SEOidiot which started life as a form of abuse from someone but you need to decide for yourself how accurate the term is.

Quotes about me

"It always makes me laugh when people's online personas end up being their industry names and Pauls is no different, but if you have ever sat and shared a beer or 2 and spoken to Paul like I have you will know his displeasure of Yorkshire Tea and his depth of knowledge around Search Marketing, when it comes to SEO Paul is no idiot I can't comment on his taste of tea thou "
